Abstract: The paper aims to present the analysis of usage and to reveal the variety of meanings of the term «narrative» in the British and American political discourse. This allowed to specify the structure, types and functions of narrative. The author concludes that in the contemporary British and American political discourse the term «narrative» retaining its semantic connections with the original meaning «a story, a description of events» acquires a variety of new meanings: «a motto, a concept, an idea, a doctrine, an explanation, a version, a myth, a stereotype»
